You often hear a general statement that fall protection equipment has a lifespan of 5 years. This is a widespread misconception among users and various companies that use and maintain personal fall protection equipment. It is correct that from The Danish Working Environment Authority<\/a> describes a typical lifespan of 5 years, but the same guide also describes that it is the manufacturer's instructions that determine the lifespan.<\/p>\n

As a company that inspects fall protection equipment, it is important to stay up to date with the manufacturers' instructions, and just as important is to know that this can vary between manufacturers and actually also between different revisions of the same equipment. So there is not just a rule of thumb that applies here! It is also important to stay informed about the manufacturers' recalls, as in the worst case you can risk serious personal injury. if a product that should be taken out of service fails!!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Where can one find information about lifespan and recalls? As a customer of Safework, we monitor many of the manufacturers regarding product recalls. If a product we have in our inspection system is recalled, we contact the customer directly.<\/p>\n
